Looking back at my video from yesterday, I felt that my spoken German had slipped a little bit. I don’t know if this was because I’m trying to do too much too quickly, or just because I haven’t been getting enough sleep. But I decided to slow things down a bit, skip the video for today, and focus on writing.

I practised some reading comprehension exercises on and then managed to catch up on Memrse. I even managed to get back to the top of the weekly leaderboard.

1st place on the German 5 leaderboard
Back on top after 3 days of third place.

Not only that, but I completed the German 5 course! According to Memrise, that means that I have learnt 400 words, the majority of which I learnt since starting my challenge.

Finsihed German 5, definately a step in the right direction.
Bring on the next level!

I am starting to realise, however, that Memrise, Duolingo, and a lot of other language apps are missing most of what makes learning a new language fun. They lack any opportunity to express creativity, only asking you to repeat previously learnt sentences. Duolingo does now have language bots, which can be quite funny from time to time but are still quite limited for the time being.

I am hoping that I will be able to keep up with my hour a day minimum on Memrise when my challenge is over, but I would now like to dedicate at least another hour to writing sentences and doing exercises!
